The Titanic Artifacts In Halifax
We had no idea of the link between Halifax and the Titanic. When the Titanic went down in April of 1912, the closest port was Halifax. The Canadian navy was given orders to recover all MALE, first-class bodies only. All the other bodies were buried at sea. 209 bodies were recovered, returned to Halifax, and identified by their personal effects. There is a display of a few items recovered from the wreckage at the time. The people of Halifax have strong feelings about the wreckage should be left where it is with the prevailing thinking that the only thing you bring back from a ship wreck are the memories......

Superimposed on a black & white photo of the grand staircase is a recovered piece of the staircase. You can see an example of where this would have been - one of the panels in the center of the photo.
The final excursion of a great trip
Saint John
St John, New Brunswick
We agreed that today was a "nice day." Unlike our adventures in Boston, Portland, and Bar Harbor which were sensational & spectacular. Nothing wrong with the day....we saw colors in our travels around the area, but nothing as spectacular as the first three stops. And the stops were interesting, but nothing of the "WOW" caliber that many of our previous stops had been. Crisp temps in the mid-to-upper 40s all day. We stopped at the Bay of Fundy & Reversing Falls, but while we could see the beginnings of the reversing water flow, it was still generally in the same direction. So I've left the preview video at the bottom of the page to indicate the significance of this unusual tidal flow. Tomorrow is a day at sea before one final stop on Friday in Halifax.

Yes, when we left for our tour of the lighthouses of Maine today it was 29 degrees outside and we were warned to be careful as we went down the gangplank as there was ICE! Check it out!

Portland Head Lighthouse
The Portland Head Lighthouse was originally built with funds appropriated by President Washington in 1791! Another interesting fact - which helps explain the following multiple pictures of this lighthouse - is that it is the MOST photographed lighthouse in the world....and I can attest to that fact as there were many angles that were as unique as the previous. Here are the best of my many shots......
